How to become a culinary chef? During your first year of study, you will develop an appreciation of European culinary philosophies, skills and modern trends, and increase your insight into the gourmet world. After completion of a period of paid internship in Switzerland or worldwide, you will build on your skills and knowledge as you move through the course. Your final project will bring together all that you have learned as you develop your own culinary business plan, the perfect recipe for a successful and creative culinary career.

Tailored Practical Classes For A Culinary Chef

Becoming a chef requires practice. Small-size practical classes allow you to work both individually and as a part of a team under the expert guidance and personal attention of the Academy’s chef instructors. Practicing in the fine-dining restaurant will help you to perfect your culinary skills.

Gastronomical Activities To Become A Chef

Becoming a chef isn’t only about the experience gathered in the kitchen, but also that gathered in everyday life, whether when reading, eating out, spending hours in cookbook stores or travelling.

At the Culinary Arts Academy Switzerland you are given the opportunity to actively develop your professional competence as a culinary chef through excursions to restaurants, wineries, food-manufacturing facilities, trade fairs and gastronomic events.

Internships To Become A Real Culinary Chef

The internship opportunity of four to six months is an important part of the culinary programme. You will learn and practise basic culinary skills in the supportive environment of the school kitchens. These skills are then put to the test in a commercial kitchen where every second counts and the customer is always right—an exciting challenge! Gain real ‘on-the-job’ experience in order to give yourself the best possible start to your career.

All students are encouraged to take the opportunity to gain valuable industry experience with some of the best restaurants and four and five-star hotels in Switzerland or abroad:

  • Ritz Paris (professional partnership with the Culinary Arts Academy Switzerland)
  • Domaine de Châteauvieux, Geneva (Relais & Châteaux and two-Michelin-starred restaurant)
  • Restaurant Didier de Courten, Sierre (two-Michelin-starred restaurant, with 19 Gault Millau points)
  • Hotel Hof Weissbad, Appenzell (restaurant with 16 Gault Millau points and Chef of the Year 2009/10)
  • Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois, Basel (two-Michelin-starred restaurant, with 18 Gault Millau points)
  • Royal Plaza Montreux (member of Chaîne des Rôtisseurs)
  • Clinique La Prairie, Montreux (World’s Best Medical Spa and Retreat Spa of the Year awards)
  • The Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi, Grand Canal, United Arab Emirates
  • The Culinary Arts Academy Switzerland actively encourages students to undertake internships in Switzerland to gain from the high quality of training available at Swiss institutions. The minimum monthly gross salary for an internship position in Switzerland is CHF 2,172.–

International Career Trips

Career trips are organised each year to the ʻhotspots’ of the culinary and hospitality industry and designed to give a special insight into future career opportunities. Visits, meetings and interviews with representatives of major hotels are organised so you can easily find the perfect position for your future.

Through the English Foundation Programme offered by the Swiss Education Group students can improve their English skills before starting their hospitality course.

Four Intakes per Year

Students can choose to start their academic studies in January, April, July or October allowing flexibility to students of all nationalities.

All students receive an iPad Air 2 Wifi/16GB on arrival, which they will use throughout their studies and is theirs to keep after graduation. The Culinary Arts Academy Switzerland is committed to using the latest technologies to aid students in their studies.
