Brillantmont International School is a fully accredited day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 11-18 in the centre of Lausanne.

The school provides internationally recognised academic programmes taught in English, which allow students to enter top-ranking universities across the world. Brillantmont offers British IGCSE / AS and A Level examinations (Cambridge International Examinations) along with American PSAT, SAT tests and SAT subject test examinations and IELTS.

The courses offered and external examinations taken from 6th -10th Grade also provide suitable preparation for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB).

With 160 students from over 40 different nationalities, Brillantmont is very much an international school, which values cultural diversity.

The Middle School welcomes students from 6th to 8th Grade.

All mainstream students will study French and are encouraged to begin a third language from 6th Grade. Students are encouraged to continue studying their mother tongue.

Brillantmont International School understands that students who are learning English as an additional language (EAL) need time to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to follow classroom instruction at the level of mainstream students. It is for this reason that Brillantmont offers an intensive programme of specialist English tuition.

Students will enter the EAL programme following an initial evaluation which will determine the areas of priority for study and also the length of time required within the programme. With hard work, the expectation is that students will enter into mainstream classes between 18 and 24 months.

It is important that EAL students feel a sense of integration at the same time as receiving specialist instruction. It is for this reason that EAL students will attend all Humanities, Mathematics, Science, creative and sporting activities with their peers as well as the PSHE and Citizenship courses essential to all students at Brillantmont.

High School Programme

The High School welcomes students from 9th -12th Grade. At every grade level, each student has a personalised timetable, which develops his / her strengths and challenges intellectually and which they may wish to pursue further at university.

ICT is an integral component of all courses. Sports and PSHE classes are compulsory for all students. All teaching is in English. In addition to their academic programmes, all students follow extra-curricular activities, many of which develop leadership skills.

About us

For around 100 boarding students, brillantmont is the place they call home. we want them to feel happy, safe and secure and part of the brillantmont family.

The students live in one of five boarding houses with others of the same gender and age and are fully supervised by caring staff who live amongst them and help create a sense of togetherness in which every student can fully develop in confidence.

Living with others of different nationalities is an enriching experience, in which students learn tolerance and a sensitivity to people from other cultures.

The bedrooms are spacious and many overlook the lake and the Alps. Most students share a room with another student, from a different country, although there are a limited number of single rooms available. Each boarding house has a lounge area and a small kitchen.

The fully balanced, international-style meals are taken in the dining room with staff. Of course, there are certain rules, which are based on age. However, as Brillantmont students mature, they are encouraged to become more responsible.

The small size of the school means that even students who arrive in the middle of the school year can fit in easily and quickly make new friends. At the end of the school day, extra-curricular activities take place and the school is buzzing with life.

All students are encouraged to participated as fully as possible in the life of the school and to join the different activities and excursions which are organised in the evenings and at weekends.

• Lausanne is a safe city, overlooking Lake Léman (often called Lake Geneva), with a population of around 150’000 inhabitants. Lausanne is a fantastic place to live and study because it offers all the advantages of city life, yet the mountains, ski resorts and nature are within half an hour’s drive.
• As you would expect of a city which is home to the International Olympic Committee, Lausanne has outstanding sports facilities of which Brillantmont students take advantage. Lausanne is famous for its excellent higher education establishments, such as the Ecole Hotelière de Lausanne the EPFL and the IMD.

About us

The Brillantmont summer course has been running for more than thirty years. It is extremely popular and many students return year after year.

The Brillantmont summer course has been running for more than thirty years. It is extremely popular and many students return year after year. For some, it is their first time away from home; for others, it is a way of getting to know Brillantmont before commencing the school year in September.

During the summer course many of excursions and activities include all the students together and this is a very important part of the Brillantmont experience, making friends from all over the world and feeling at home.

The summer course is for boys and girls aged 10-16 and students come from around 30 different countries. They study French or English in the mornings and take sports classes in the afternoons. There are many evening activities and a busy excursion programme at weekends.

Students choose to stay between two to six weeks. The programme is not a fixed block. This means that if a student stays for six weeks, he/she will study something new each week and will join new activities and excursions. All departures and arrivals take place on Saturdays.

We want the summer course students to make progress in their chosen language but we also want them to enjoy themselves and have memorable experiences.

The programme is great value for money because there are no hidden extras in the price, everything is included. Only a small amount of pocket money needs to be provided.

Languages

• Students choose to study French or English. Parents sometimes worry that their child is a total beginner, but we have classes at all levels, from total beginner right up to advanced. On arrival, students are tested in their chosen language and put into the appropriate class. The average class size is 12 students, so there is a lot of teacher contact.

• Flexible length of stay from two to six weeks (arrivals and departures on Saturdays)
