Swiss boarding school fees for 2026/27 at a glance

The table shows the ten schools on our site with 2026/27 fee documents on file, sorted by what a family pays in one year for the most expensive boarding year group: the published fee plus the main compulsory annual charges for that year group, such as Beau Soleil's other fees and St. George's insurance. Smaller or unpriced compulsory items, such as exam registration, come on top; the sections below name the main ones. Each row links to the school's own fee document and gives its date.

The headline fee is only part of the bill. Beau Soleil's boarding and tuition fee for Grades 11 and 12 is CHF 148,440, but its 2026/27 fee page adds CHF 26,460 of other fees for medical insurance, expeditions and cultural activities, and CHF 8,490 of annual trip fees, which are not charged in Grade 12. In Years 12 and 13, St. George's adds a CHF 1,500 IB Diploma charge in each year and CHF 2,800 of medical insurance, which applies from Year 6, according to its boarding fee schedule.

The column for one-off costs adds what a new pupil pays once: application and joining fees and the deposit. Deposits usually come back after the pupil leaves; the fees do not. Both are set out school by school further down.

How tuition and boarding fees change by year group

Most schools charge more as pupils move up, and the steps can be large. At Aiglon College the top year group costs CHF 67,200 more than the youngest boarding year; at La Garenne the difference is CHF 44,000. Leysin American School publishes a single tuition fee, and Collège du Léman one boarding fee for Grades 5 to 12.

Exam years bring their own charges. St. George's bills IGCSE fees of CHF 300 in Year 10 and CHF 1,500 in Year 11, then CHF 1,500 a year for the IB Diploma (fee schedule). ENSR lists IB exam registration at CHF 1,390 to 2,650 (fee sheet), while Aiglon includes public examination fees in its tuition (Financial Information 2026/27).

What the fee includes and what comes on top

A Swiss boarding fee is a package, and no two packages are the same. The lists below come from each school's own 2026/27 document; where a document says nothing about an item, ask the school before you compare. • Aiglon College: for boarders, accommodation, laundry, the ski pass, Swiss health insurance, residence tax and permits; for every pupil, meals, expeditions, required trips, books and public examination fees (Financial Information).
• Leysin American School: room and board, school events and excursions, the ski pass with group ski or snowboard lessons, the school health plan, the Swiss residence permit and communal taxes, and a school laptop with a Swiss SIM card (financial information 2026/27).
• Collège du Léman: health insurance, books and school supplies, field trips, three mountain weekends, personal laundry and sports uniform; exam fees are invoiced separately (table of fees).
• La Garenne: school uniform, the ski pass for boarders, transport to and from Geneva airport on official dates, and VAT; health and accident insurance and mandatory school trips are not included (General Conditions).
• Brillantmont: excursions and field trips, airport transfers on official dates, nursing care, residence permits, textbooks and VAT (fees).
• Beau Soleil: medical insurance, expeditions and cultural activities come as compulsory other fees of CHF 26,460 on top of the boarding fee (fees).
• ENSR: full board, accommodation and accident insurance, with laundry and weekends for seven-day boarders only; health insurance is compulsory but not included, nor are textbooks, and VAT is invoiced separately (boarding fees).

Extras outside the fee

• Pocket money: Aiglon charges CHF 1,360 a year in advance for boarders in Years 5 to 8 (Financial Information); St. George's lists CHF 1,750 a year (fee schedule).
• A personal account: Leysin American School recommends CHF 10,000 a year, from which it also takes a health plan contribution of CHF 300 per semester (financial information).
• Single rooms: St. George's charges CHF 10,000 a year for a single room request; Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz, outside our list, charges CHF 15,000 (Financial Guide 2026/27).
• Learning support and private lessons, priced separately; St. George's lists support levels from CHF 2,160 to 6,200 a year (fee schedule).
• Equipment, trips and travel: Leysin American School budgets ski and bike equipment at CHF 1,000 to 5,000 a year and optional trips at around CHF 2,000 (financial information); Aiglon lists ski equipment, optional trips and travel to and from school as not included.

One-off costs when your child joins

Every school charges something once, before or on arrival: an application or registration fee, often a joining fee or a contribution to a campus or capital fund, and a deposit. The deposit is held until the pupil leaves; the fees are spent. For a new boarder in 2026/27, the totals run from CHF 8,000 at ENSR (seven-day boarding) to CHF 24,990 at Beau Soleil; Chantemerle asks CHF 1,600 plus a deposit for personal expenses of about 15 per cent of the fees.

Three more items can apply. La Garenne charges new boarders of non-European nationality CHF 2,100 for the Swiss student residence permit (General Conditions). St. George's asks new pupils for an advance payment of CHF 20,000 within 60 days (terms), and Collège du Léman for an advance of CHF 43,000 on the year's fees within 15 days of the invoice (table of fees).

Eight schools describe their deposit as refundable or returned when the pupil leaves: Aiglon, Beau Soleil, Brillantmont, Collège du Léman, La Garenne, Leysin American School, St. George's and Surval Montreux. The timing varies: Leysin American School and Surval Montreux refund within three months, La Garenne within 120 days, and Aiglon not before September of the following academic year. Several keep the deposit if a new pupil's enrolment is cancelled: Leysin American School, Surval Montreux, Brillantmont and La Garenne say so, and Aiglon does for cancellations from 15 February.

Boarding or day, seven days or five

A boarding place costs far more than a day place at the same school. At Aiglon, the boarding fee adds accommodation, laundry, the ski pass, health insurance and permits to what a day pupil receives (Financial Information). For the top year group, the difference ranges from CHF 33,000 at Chantemerle to CHF 83,150 at St. George's.

Weekly boarding is the other lever. St. George's weekly boarders spend five nights a week on campus and pay CHF 97,100 in Years 12 and 13, CHF 35,300 less than full boarders (terms). At ENSR, five-day boarding saves CHF 14,000 a year, but laundry and weekends are then not included (boarding fees); at Chantemerle it saves CHF 8,000 (tarifs).

Fees by setting: lake, terrace and Alps

Our overview of the schools groups the houses by the height of their postal address, as swisstopo gives it: in the Alps from 1,200 m, on the terrace above Lake Geneva, and on the lake shore below 480 m. The two highest fees are in the Alps and the lowest on the terrace; the two lake-shore houses fall between CHF 117,500 and 132,400.

• In the Alps (Chesières-Villars, Villars-sur-Ollon, Leysin): Aiglon College, Beau Soleil, La Garenne and Leysin American School publish top-year boarding fees from CHF 128,000 to 168,000.
• On the lake shore (Versoix, Clarens): Collège du Léman charges CHF 117,500 and St. George's CHF 132,400.
• On the terrace (Lausanne, Blonay, Montreux): Chantemerle, ENSR, Brillantmont and Surval Montreux range from CHF 62,500 to 115,000; Surval charges CHF 115,000 (fees 2026/27). Haut-Lac in Saint-Légier, also on the terrace, showed only 2025/26 fees when we checked.

Part of the difference is what the fee contains. The ski pass is included for boarders at Aiglon and La Garenne and at Leysin American School, which adds group ski or snowboard lessons; Beau Soleil bills expeditions within its compulsory other fees. On the terrace, ENSR's fee leaves out textbooks, health insurance and VAT.

Payment dates, notice periods and refunds

Swiss boarding schools bill in advance and hold families to fixed notice dates. These are the terms in each school's own 2026/27 document; for the admissions timetable itself, see how to choose a Swiss boarding school.

• Aiglon College: fees are due upfront; on request, two equal instalments on 15 May and 15 November, with an administrative fee of CHF 3,000 a year. A new family that cancels after 15 May owes the autumn term, and leaving during the year needs a full term's notice (financial conditions).
• St. George's: 40, 30 and 30 per cent of the annual fee, due on 30 June 2026, 30 November 2026 and 28 February 2027. Notice to leave at the end of the year is due by 31 March 2027; late notice makes the next term payable in full (terms and conditions).
• La Garenne: two invoices, Terms 1 and 2 by 1 June and Term 3 before 1 December, and the Diploma Years pay the full year in advance. A family that cancels re-enrolment after 28 February is charged 80 per cent of the first invoice (General Conditions).
• Collège du Léman: an advance of CHF 43,000, then CHF 74,500 by 15 June 2026 or two payments of CHF 37,250 on 15 June and 5 November 2026 (table of fees).
• Beau Soleil: Terms 1 and 2 by 15 April, Term 3 by 31 January, other bills within 30 days (fees).
• Leysin American School: tuition is due by 1 April or within 10 days of acceptance; a family that cancels before that date gets all fees back except the deposit and the application fee (tuition and fees).
• Chantemerle: early departure must be notified in writing 30 days before the next term, and a term that has started is due in full (tarifs).

Cheaper boarding schools in Switzerland

The lowest published boarding fees among our houses are at Chantemerle in Blonay: CHF 51,500 a year for five-day and CHF 59,500 for seven-day boarding in the Swiss section (tarifs 2026/27). ENSR in Lausanne follows with CHF 57,500 to 67,000 for five-day and CHF 71,500 to 81,000 for seven-day boarding, before VAT (boarding fees).

Lower fees can cover less, so compare the lists rather than the totals: ENSR's fee excludes health insurance, textbooks and VAT, and Chantemerle bills health and accident insurance and study trips separately, against a deposit for personal expenses of about 15 per cent of the fees (tarifs). Outside our list, Institut Montana in Zug publishes boarding at CHF 70,400 to 72,800 a year without naming the school year (tuition and fees).

Discounts and scholarships

Sibling discounts are the most common reduction. Aiglon takes 5 per cent off for a second child and more for larger families (Financial Information), La Garenne 10 per cent for a second boarder, 15 for a third and 20 for a fourth (General Conditions), and Collège du Léman 10 per cent from the third child (table of fees). Beau Soleil states that it does not offer financial aid or scholarships at this time (fees).

Why undated fee ranges mislead

Many pages that answer this question give a single range, without a school year or a source. Fees change every year, and the schools say so. Aiglon's board updates fees each December for the following academic year and publishes them from January (Financial Information); Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz states that its main costs are typically adjusted for inflation at the start of 2027/28 (Financial Guide); La Garenne reserves the right to raise fees by inflation (General Conditions).

Next year's figures can appear early. Le Rosey's financial conditions for 2027/28, dated September 2026, are already on its website, and the first re-enrolment payment for that year is due by 31 March 2027 (conditions 2027/28). A range copied from an older page can therefore be two school years out of date.

Before comparing any two figures, ask the school:

• Which school year does the document cover, and when was it published?
• Which year group is the figure for, and is it full, weekly or day boarding?
• Which charges are compulsory for every pupil, and which apply only to some?
• Is VAT included, and in which currency will you be invoiced?
• What do you pay once on entry, and what comes back when your child leaves?
• What are the payment dates and notice periods, and what happens if your child leaves during the year?

Other Swiss schools that publish their fees

Several well-known schools outside our list publish fees on their own websites. They are not part of the comparison above; each figure below comes from the school's own document or fee page, read on 23 September 2026.

Institut auf dem Rosenberg in St. Gallen publishes no single boarding fee: its fee page sets a Base Fee of CHF 100,000 a year for tuition, meals and some activities, adds individual fees for the room and other items, and puts the average cost of a boarding year at CHF 165,000, without naming a school year.
